Bone mass is more important than you think. Why we should know and get checked before it's too late.

You may feel perfectly healthy and have no symptoms, but did you know that inside your body, your bone mass may be slowly decreasing without you realizing it? This is especially true after the age of 40, which marks the beginning of natural changes in bone structure. The result is "osteoporosis," which often shows no symptoms. It's a condition where bone mass decreases to the point of becoming brittle and prone to fractures; even a minor fall or a forceful cough can cause a break.
The worrying thing is, this disease has no warning signs.
✅ What is bone density testing?
Bone mineral density (BMD) testing uses a DEXA scan to measure bone density, particularly in the hips and spine, which are common fracture sites in people with osteoporosis.
The advantages are:
It's easy to check and doesn't take long.
No pain
It exposes you to less radiation than a typical chest X-ray.
Knowing your bone strength allows you to plan for preventative measures in advance.
👥 Who should get tested?
Women aged 45 and older
Men aged 60 and above
People who are thin and underweight.
People with a history of bone fractures, even if not caused by a severe accident.
People who have been using steroids for more than 3 months.
People who smoke or drink alcohol regularly.
There is a family history of osteoporosis.
