Spine & Joint Specialists Reveal the Causes of Premature Bone and Joint Degeneration

S Spine & Joint Hospital organized a special event at POLO Club to raise awareness and promote accurate understanding of spinal and joint health.
On August 23, 2025, S Spine & Joint Hospital held a special event at POLO Club to share knowledge and provide proper guidance on spinal and joint care. Dr. Sutthavee Pangkanon, a specialist in spine and joint disorders, delivered an exclusive lecture to the participants. He explained that in the past, humans moved on all fours, which allowed spinal pressure to be distributed horizontally, reducing the direct load on bones and joints. However, as humans evolved to stand upright and walk on two legs, the force shifted vertically, requiring the spine and joints to bear body weight directly.
The Knee: The Weak Point Bearing the Greatest Load
One of the most affected joints is the knee. Previously, with four limbs, the body could distribute weight more evenly. Once reduced to two legs, the knees had to absorb double the pressure, making them more prone to wear and tear and leading to osteoarthritis earlier than expected.
Modern Lifestyles That Accelerate Degeneration
Although bone and joint degeneration is partly linked to human evolution, a major contributing factor today is lifestyle behavior. Prolonged sitting in the same position, lifting heavy objects incorrectly, excess body weight, and neglecting proper exercise all accelerate spinal and joint degeneration—especially among working-age and middle-aged individuals. Prevention begins with daily habits. Taking care of spinal and joint health can start with simple adjustments such as maintaining correct posture when sitting or standing, choosing exercises suitable for one’s body, keeping weight within a healthy range, and avoiding improper lifting techniques. These changes help reduce the risk of degeneration and extend the longevity of the joints.
When to See a Specialist
If symptoms such as chronic back or joint pain, radiating pain down the arms or legs, stiffness, difficulty in movement, or pain interfering with daily activities occur, it is important to consult a specialist for a thorough diagnosis. At S Spine & Joint Hospital, we emphasize identifying the root cause through advanced diagnostic tools such as MRI combined with X-ray imaging, enabling doctors to develop precise treatment plans.
During the Q&A session with the specialist, participants actively engaged by asking about their spinal and joint health concerns, receiving practical advice they could apply in daily life.
The event also featured activities of great interest, including: Posture Check – Assessing posture to prevent spinal problems Basic Body Composition Assessment – Understanding health fundamentals to improve self-care habits Q&A with the Doctor – An open opportunity to directly ask spine and joint specialists about health concerns Participants also received souvenirs, with additional chances to win exclusive gifts.
S Spine & Joint Hospital remains committed to organizing ongoing activities to share knowledge and promote better health for Thai society. Stay updated on upcoming events and initiatives at www.s-spineandjointhospital.com or via Facebook: @Sspineandjointhospital and @JointExpertSHospital
