"Just get rid of it. It's like they picked it out for us...and then our lives go back to normal."

Mr. Surayut

Treating neck pain.

Mr. Surayuth's treatment experience: He was admitted for treatment of a lumbar disc herniation in 2020 and returned for treatment of a cervical disc herniation in 2022. Initially, Mr. Surayuth experienced radiating back pain down both legs, a feeling of a heavy weight pressing down on his back, and numbness in his legs. At night, his legs felt hot, making it impossible to sleep. He had to take painkillers constantly, and the pain would return when the medication wore off. He realized he couldn't continue suffering like this any longer and needed to find a hospital that could treat this condition seriously.

While searching for treatment information on social media, he came across S Hospital, a specialized spine hospital. He then began following and researching the hospital more and more for over two months. His radiating back pain down his legs continued to interfere with his life, and he was experiencing increasing numbness. Therefore, he decided to call and make an appointment, driving from Phichit province to Bangkok for a thorough examination before he was no longer able to drive.

Upon arriving at the hospital, the nurses inquired about his medical history and escorted him to see the doctor. The doctor conducted a thorough physical examination and ordered an MRI. He felt very scared and excited because it was the first time in his life he had to undergo a scan. When it was time to go into the open MRI machine, he found it not as scary and uncomfortable as he had imagined. After the scan was complete, the nurses called him back to see the doctor immediately to discuss the results. The doctor explained each step in detail on a large screen so he knew the location of the problem and what area needed treatment. The doctor also showed a video explaining the treatment procedure. "At that time, the doctor recommended a laparoscopic procedure." After learning the detailed results, he decided to undergo treatment that day.

His first feeling after receiving treatment was that the radiating back pain down his legs had miraculously disappeared, as if he had never had the pain before. It was as if the doctor had simply taken the pain away, allowing him to return to his normal life. He was overjoyed to be able to do what he wanted to do again.

Two years later, he had an accident, falling from a chair, causing neck pain. Physical therapy didn't improve his condition, leading to bruising at the back of his head and radiating pain that required him to constantly massage his head. The symptoms were very similar to those of two years prior. He suspected it might be a herniated disc again, so after consulting with his wife, they decided to drive to Bangkok to see a doctor at S Hospital once more.

This time, he thought his back pain must have been caused by falling from a chair. However, a physical examination revealed that the back pain was only due to inflammation. The pain radiating from the back of his neck to his head, as the doctor explained, was caused by a herniated cervical disc compressing two nerves at C3-C4 and C6-C7. He was very shocked by the combination of neck and back pain. The doctor then provided details and treatment options.

This reassured him and convinced him to seek treatment here again, because he believed that "targeted treatment and diagnosis by a specialist in spine surgery is the best choice I've made."

After the treatment, he reflected on the experience and felt a sense of "déjà vu"—a feeling of having been in the same situation, place, or conversation before—since his first visit, as the pain in the back of his neck and head disappeared. "It was like someone had taken my pain away again."

Mr. Surayuth further explained that receiving treatment for both his neck and back resulted in his pain disappearing overnight, saving him from the agonizing experience of his friends who had to stay in the hospital for extended recovery. He said that because of the surgery he chose, he could go home after just one night. Many people might perceive surgery as dangerous, but the technology at S Hospital is advanced and not as frightening as some might think.

"Targeted treatment for my symptoms. That's what I chose, and I'm the one who chooses what's best for myself. This hospital is the one I chose," Mr. Surayuth concluded.
