If the cause of your back pain cannot be identified and the spinal pain persists for more than 6 weeks, you should consult a doctor for a thorough examination to determine the true cause and address the problem at its root. Taking muscle relaxants or applying topical pain relievers may not improve the condition if the underlying cause is unknown.
