The pain of wanting to amputate an arm… to a new life for Chatri.

Chatri

When the word "pain" is mentioned, many people might only think of rest or taking medicine. But for Chatri, it wasn't just ordinary "pain," but a pain so severe that he once thought, "It would be better if I could just cut off my arm."

The onset of pain.

Mr. Chatri started experiencing neck pain several years ago. At the time, he simply thought it was just general aches and pains from working hard to support his family. No matter how hard the work was, he persevered because he believed his body was still strong.

"Four or five years ago, I was young and worked hard. I carried heavy things, hauled wood, transported sacks of rice, and boxed to earn money to support my family," he said, his voice reflecting on a time when he worked so hard without ever realizing that pain would become a serious problem.

Symptoms that are becoming more severe.

But the turning point in his life began one day while driving long distances across provinces without stopping. After a while, the pain in his neck, spreading down his arms and shoulder blades, became so severe that he felt the pain clearly.

"It was a stinging sensation that went down my arm, like an electric shock constantly going through my arm, until my arm went numb," he recounted, his eyes reflecting the unavoidable agony.

Suffering from pain that intensified.

As the pain gradually intensified, his daily life came to a standstill. The pain, which persisted for even a single day, led him to think, "Some days the pain is so severe I can't do anything. It's painful 24/7. It's so agonizing that I even considered cutting off my arm. It's unbearable. If I didn't have an arm, I wouldn't suffer." He recounted this with a voice filled with stress and agony.

The agony of having to find a way out.

Mr. Chatri chose not to live with this pain forever, so he decided to find a solution. He began researching his condition and found that it was likely related to a herniated disc compressing a nerve.

"I couldn't stand taking the same old painkillers anymore, so I started researching and found out that this condition was related to a herniated disc. That's why I decided to come to a specialized hospital," he said, his face filled with determination to be free from the pain.

Life-changing surgery

After consulting with doctors, Mr. Chatri underwent endoscopic surgery, a minimally invasive procedure. Shortly after the surgery, the pain he had endured for months disappeared. “When I woke up after the surgery, I immediately felt the tingling sensation gone. The radiating pain down my arm was gone. I could sleep comfortably without the pain I experienced before. I think it's over now. It's really gone. I don't have to suffer anymore.”
